Pimlico riverside history tour

Western Pumping Station, Grosvenor Road

Join local guide Tony on a walking tour and seek out clues to Pimlico’s industrial history as well as visiting some legacy structures

Less than a mile from Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, Pimlico is a quiet residential area close to the River Thames. Yet less than a century ago the riverside was home to many wharves and businesses connected to the river. While the wharves have long gone, and the businesses have been replaced by residences, there are plenty of clues to Pimlico’s history. Find out about power stations and pumping stations, factories and floods, scholars and sewage, generals and gin. Tony’s tour is supplemented by old maps, photographs and drawings to help bring Pimlico’s history back to life.
