Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpieces
2023 marks the tercentenary of the death of one of the greatest ever British architects – Sir Christopher Wren. His impact on the City of London’s layout and buildings following the Great Fire of London in 1666 is still very visible today and impacts the future development of City buildings. He rebuilt 51 churches following the Fire plus his masterpiece, St. Paul’s Cathedral.
This walk centres on St Paul’s (although we do not go inside) but will visit several of his buildings, exploring the inside of two if his churches. We touch on Wren’s other roles as scientist and astronomer and discuss some of the work of his colleagues/pupils.
